Charles Ernest Farr was born in 1896 at Cuckney, he was the son of William a policeman and Louisa Farr née Hague of Binbrook Lincoln. His father was born in 1858 at Sturton by Stow, Lincolnshire and his mother Louisa Hague was born in 1860 in Bradfield, Yorkshire, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Worksop Registration District. They went on to have 11 children who were Maud b1888 Coddington, Nora b1890 Coddington, Ida b1891 Coddington, Winifred b1893 Newark, William Arthur b1894 Retford, Charles Ernest b1896 Cuckney, Gladys May b1898 Cuckney, Edith Emily b1900 Cuckney, Muriel Irene b1902 Hucknall, Dorothy Helen b1905 Farnsfield and John Lewis b1906 Farnsfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at Back Lane, Farnsfield and are shown as William 53 yrs a police pensioner, he is living with his wife Louisa 51 yrs and their children, William Arthur 17 yrs a cowman on farm, Charles Ernest 15 yrs a groom on a farm, Gladys May 13 yrs a scholar, Edith Emily 11 yrs a scholar, Muriel Irene 9 yrs a scholar, Dorothy Helen 6 yrs a scholar and John Lewis 5 yrs a scholar
Lance Corporal Charles Ernest Farr enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Warsop, he initially served with the service number 22898 in the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). He landed in France on 15th July 1915 and died of wounds on 24th May 1916 and is buried in Faubourg D'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, Pas de Calais, France.
