Robert Joseph Clark Pettinger was born at Everton in 1877, he was baptised on 11th March 1877 at Holy Trinity Church, Everton he was the son of Luke Clark a boatman and coal dealer, and Elizabeth Pettinger (nee Teal) He had six siblings, Anne 1867, John 1870, James 1872, William 1880, Edith 1883 and Walter Clark 1887. He married Emma Hewitt who was born at West Stockwith on 1st September 1880 at Misterton on 11th June 1900, they had 6 children, sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood, they were Ernest 1902, Lily 1904, Amy 1906, Olive 1910 and Edna May 1912. In 1911 he was living at West Stockwith, Robert is 34 yrs and a canal boatman, he is living with his wife Emma 30 yrs and their 4 children. In 1911 his parents are living at 5 Carr Cottages, Carr Street, Lincoln, Luke is 66 yrs a canal boatman he is living with his wife Elizabeth 63 yrs

Military History

Driver Robert Pettinger enlisted into the Army at East Retford on 25th January 1915, he landed in France on 1st September 1915. He served with the Royal Field Artillery but was later discharged and died at West Stockwith on 11th August 1919 and is buried in Misterton Cemetery
