Family History

John Williamson Gilbank was the son of Mathew and Mary Jane Gilbank who were parents to 5 other children. The family spent several years in that location but as the family grew up, they drifted away and by 1911, Matthew, Mary J, John Williamson and Mary J Gilbank junior were living in Harworth, Plumtree. John was a boarder, working as a wagoner on a farm, whilst his father worked the land.

Military History

John enlisted at Retford and was killed in action (shell fire) in Flanders. He is remembered at Delville Wood Cemetery, Longueval
