Frank Arrand

It is reported that Frank Arrand enlisted in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, number 26473. He may also have been number 30777 in the Royal Welsh Fusiers before being transferred to the Welsh Borderers. He fought on the Western Front and was killed in action. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Pte. Frank Arrand Worksop Guardian 24 August 1917 A memorial service was held at Harworth Church, on Friday, for Pte Frank Arrand, Welsh Borderers, youngest son of Mrs. Arrand, late of Styrup, who was killed in action on July 31st. Private Arrand went out to Mesopotamia and was invalided home last Christmas-time. The Chaplain of his battalion informs the mother that the deceased, with a working party, was engaged in road making, when a shell burst, killing him instantaneously. Prior to enlistment, he worked at Rossington Colliery.

Nottinghamshire Archives (ref PR 23,108/1-12); photocopy of a newspaper article (newspaper name not given) dated 26 January 1918, about Corporal Joseph Gray from Styrrup who had been awarded the DCM [MiD] shortly before he was killed in 1917. The article also mentions that, 'Two other soldiers from Styrrup have been killed viz Jack Gregory, Mechanical Transport, and Frank Arrand, KOYLI.'
