Bernard Brown was born in 1896 he was he son of David a blacksmith and Mary Jane Brown née Ward of 67, Carlill Terrace, Canwick Rd, Lincoln. David was born in 1870 in Horsington, Lincolnshire, Mary Jane Ward was born in 1865 at Barnby Moor, they were married in 1895 their marriage was recorded in the East Retford registration district, they had a further child a daughter Dorothy born 1900 Barnby Moor. In 1911 the family are living at 67 Coultham Street, Lincoln, David 41 yrs is a blacksmith he is living with his wife Mary 46 yrs and their 2 children, Bernard 15 yrs an iron turner and Dorothy 11 yrs
Private Bernard Brown enlisted on 20th March 1912 at Lincoln, giving his age as 17 yrs and 8 months, he was a turner and resided at 67 Carlill Terrace, Canwick Road, Lincoln, he was posted to the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was embodied for war on 5th August 1914 and landed in France on 24th June 1915. Wounded on 15th September 1915 he was admitted to the 17th casualty clearing station. He died of his wounds on 17th September 1915, he is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery 3.A.29.
