Family History

Thomas Allen Troop was the son of Thomas and Martha Troop born 1892, Lound, Retford, Notts, and was one of 12 children. Before joining the army, he worked as a farm labourer and wood carter.

Military History

Troop was attested 11 Dec 1915, approved by the magistrate on 13 April 1916, embarked to France 9 July 1916 and joined 10th Sherwood Foresters on 22July 1916. His promotion to L/Cpl came on the 3rd of March 1917 and four months later on the 11th July he was wounded with gun shot wounds to his right arm and admitted to hospital. After being discharged a month later, he gained his rank increase to Corporal on the 31st August and Sergeant on 25th September1917. It was six months later that he was reported missing on the 21-23 March 1918 and was recorded as being killed on the 21st. He is commemorated in the Caix Britsh Cemetery, France
