Family History

James was born in 1895 the son of Joseph, a blacksmith and Jane Swindin and the brother of George, Samuel, Florence Elizabeth and Alice Hannah Swindin. They lived at Everton. In 1901 the family was living at Bawtry Road Scaftworth. In 1911 the family was still living in Scaftworth. Eight children had been born to Jane and Joseph although one had died in infancy.

Military History

James enlisted in Retford and served with the 1/5th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. On 14th November 1916 he went missing and was presumed dead on that date.
