William Beech

Thomas William, known as William, was born in 1895 at Gringley on the Hill and was the son of Thomas and Eliza Beech (née Holgate). His father Thomas was born in 1870 at Gringley. His mother Eliza Holgate was born in 1871 in Wiseton, Nottinghamshire. They were married in 1892 (reg. East Retford) and had 11 children, sadly four were to die in infancy or early childhood. Their surviving children, who were all born in Gringley, were: Olive b1897, Cyril b1899, Alfred b1901, Alice b1903, Arthur b1907 and Ruth b1910. In 1901, Thomas Wiliam was living with his parents and siblings - Olive, Cyril and Alfred - at Westwell Lane, Gringley on the Hill. Thomas snr. was a bricklayer. In 1911 the family was living at Everton and shown as Thomas 40 yrs a bricklayer, his wife Eliza 40 yrs and their children Thomas William 16 yrs a general labourer, Olive 14 yrs working at home, Cyril 12 yrs a scholar, Alfred 10 yrs a scholar, Alice 8yrs, Arthur 4 yrs and Ruth 1 year of age.
