Family History

William Ward was born in 1896 at Ompton, Nottinghamshire. His mother was Minnie Ward who in 1901, was living with her parents and William in Ompton. She married in 1903 she married to Michael Noton and by 1911 they were living in Boughton Road, Ollerton. They had also produced three half siblings for William, Arthur Charles Noton, 1906 Dorothy May Noton 1908 and Alvyn Edwin Noton 1910. William being 15 years old was working as a drapers errand boy.

Military History

William was living at Elkesley when he enlisted from Lincoln. He went to the Western front where he was killed in action and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium
