Charles Robinson and Louisa Cliff Taylor married in 1891 registered In Retford. Although not natives of Clayworth, both had been residents for some time. Charles, who had come from Scotton, Lincs was employed as a farm labourer. The couple had eight children who were, Herbert born 1892, William 1895, Martha 1898, Edith 1900, Ada 1903, Elizabeth 1906, Nelly 1908 and John Henry 1910. All were born in Clayworth. By 1911, the two eldest, Herbert and William, had moved away, both working as farm servant waggoners, Herbert at Glentworth, Lincolnshire and William as one of five farm workers, resident at Westwood Farm, Tuxford, Newark.
William enlisted at Gainsborough and went to France 1st March 1915 but was killed in action and as he has no known grave, was commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France.
William's uncle, (his mother's brother), George Cliff Taylor, was also killed in the war and is named on the Clayworth memorial. Research by Colin Dannatt.
