Family History

Horace Spittlehouse was born in 1898 the son of George a milk dealer and Elizabeth Spittlehouse née Gregory and the brother of Annie Spittlehouse. In 1901 they lived at Carlton in Lindrick and at 11 Hollywell Road Sheffield in 1911. George was born in 1867 at Misterton Carr, Elizabeth Gregory was born in 1860 at Carlton in Linderick they were married in 1894

Military History

Horace attested at Sheffield on the 10th October 1915 and was placed in the reserve. He was 19 when he was medically examined and mobilised on 25th October 1916. He joined the York & Lancsaster Regiment, 6th Service Battalion and on the 23rd March 1917 he went to Etaples. Within a few days he was admitted to hospital with measles and re-joined his regiment in the middle of April. Two months later, on the 15th June 1917, he died of wounds received in action and is buried at Baileul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord) Grave Reference: III D 13
