Frederick Bartle and Mary Todd married at Southwell in 1879. Their first child, Ernest was born at Tuxford in the following year and from here they moved to Kneesall, Notts where Frederick worked as an agricultural labourer. Their next four children, Herbert born 1881, Fred born 1886, Lucy born 1891 and Harry in1895, were all born in Kneesall. By 1901, Fred senior, had secured himself a job as a cattle stockman and Fred junior, at the age of 15 was working as a shepherd boy on farm. By 1911, Frederick and Mary had moved again and were now resident at 37 Bothamsall, Retford. All their children has now left the family home with Fred the younger, a boarder living at East Drayton, Lincoln employed as a general labourer in the new Government Criminal Asylum.
Frederick Bartle enlisted at Doncaster, killed in Action whilst in Belgium and was commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
