Family History

Albert was born in 1896 at Harworth the son of Thomas a coachman and Eliza Webb who lived at Church St., Bawtry. In the 1911 census the family are living in Church Street Bawtry Albert is 13 years of age and a scholar, he has three sisters and two brothers.

Military History

He enlisted into the army at Sheffield on 16th December 1915 and joined his battalion 9th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in France. he was reported 'missing' after severe action at Kemmel Hill near Ypres on 25th April 1918 and was never afterwards heard of. He was 21 years of age at the time of his death and was a bachelor.

Extra Information

His name is commemorated at the Tyne Cot memorial, Belgium he had 2 brothers who also served during the' Great War' Harry Thomas Webb of the Coldstream Guards who during the retreat from Mons was wounded in the leg and taken prisoner and who remained a prisoner until the end of the war. Allan Fletcher Webb who served with the Royal Garrison Artillery.
