Family History

Harold was born in 1892 in Morton and was the son of John Tom and Betsy Pacey, of Front St, Morton, Gainsborough he has six siblings. In the 1911 census he is a servant employed as a cowman with a family called Silvester at Gildingwells, Worksop

Military History

He volunteered for service after the declaration of war and joined up in August 1914 at Doncaster.He trained at Doncaster , York, Sanbach and Gainsborough and went with his battalion to France on 13th April 1915.He was wounded on 16th July near Thiepval. On 18th November 1917 he was reported missing in action and on the 27th November 1917 finally recorded as being dead.

Extra Information

His name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, The Somme He was one of five Austerfield boys all of whom drove over together to Doncaster in August 1914 and enlisted into the Army of these five Harold and two of the others were killed during the war
