Family History

John was born in Everton in 1895 the son of William and Sarah Ogley, of Station Rd., Bawtry, Doncaster. In the 1911 census he is shown as 16 years of age and a waggoner on a farm with John Warrener and his family at Nettlworth Farm in Mansfield

Military History

He enlisted at Bawtry on 23rd June 1915 and served with the 2nd battalion Yorks and Lancaster Regiment.He fought with his battalion in France and was killed in action on 21st April 1916 during the continuing battle of the Somme,he was 21 years of age.

Extra Information

His name is commemorated on the Menin gate memorial Ypres, Belgium His brother Arthur Ogley of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry also served during the 'Great War'
