Stanley was born in 1900 at Stokeham,Lincolnshire he was the youngest son of Lucy Ann Little, of Church St., Bawtry, Yorks, and the late William H. Little.In the 1911 census he was living with his widowed grandfather George Wood a green grocer in Swan Street, Bawtry. He is 11 years of age and a scholar

Military History

He enlisted at Doncaster on 21st January 1918 and served with the 1st battalion East Yorkshire Regiment. He was reported 'missing' after an action with his battalion in France on 10th September 1918 and was never heard of again. presumably he was killed in action and his body never recovered.

Extra Information

His name is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois memorial, France He had a brother Sidney who served in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who had joined up on 4th September 1914 at the start of the war. he was wounded in the thigh on 16th September and again with shrapnel in the left foot in April 1917, he was subsequently discharged from the army in December 1917.
