.Sidney was born in 1893 at Navenby, Lincoln the son of Thomas William and Martha K. Johnson, of High St., Navenby, Lincoln. In the 1911 census the family are living at 41 High Street,Navenby he is 16 years single a domestic gardener he has two younger sisters. He was married and had a daughter aged 2 years and two step sons upon his death. He was a railway porter in the employ of The great Northern Railway and lived in one of the railway companies cottages neat the railway station at Bawtry.
He joined up at Doncaster and served with the 2/5th battalion of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was badly wounded in action and subsequently taken prisoner on 27th March 1918. He died whilst in German captivity in Germany on 19th May 1918 aged 25 years.
He is buried at Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal cemetery, France His widow only survived him by a few months dying at Bawtry on 1st March 1919
