Employment, Education or Hobbies Cyril was appointed as a railway clerk with the Great Central Railway on 6 December 1907 at the Nottingham goods accounts office. He was 15 years old. His record noted that on 6 January 1915 he 'Joined the colours' followed by an entry dated 5 February 1915, 'Died from pneumonia whilst undergoing training at Aldershot.' (Railway employment records/register 1833-1916).
Family History

Cyril was the eldest son of Francis a brewery clerk and Annie Beardsmore. He was the brother of William Bernard Beardsmore. In 1911, they lived on Main Street Nuthall. Francis was the verger at St Patrick's church Nuthall for 31 years.

Military History

Army Service Corps Cyril attested in Nottingham on 14 January 1915 where following a medical examination he was declared fit for active service. Mr W H Hobson, his work place employer, Great Central Railway goods accounts office, Queens Walk, Nottingham, provided a reference dated 15 January 1915 in reply to army form B64C: 'Cyril is a most reliable clerk, sober, trustworthy in every respect and a good accountant, just the man for the Army Service Corps.' He began training at Aldershot on 20 January 1915 but had only served for 23 days when on 5 February he died of pneumonia. He was buried in St Patrick's Churchyard, Nuthall, Nottingham.
