Benjamin Robert Taylor was born in 1889 at Newthorpe and was the son of Zachariah a coal miner hewer and Millicent Taylor née Clarke of 60 Dovecote Road, Newthorpe Nottinghamshire. His father Zachariah was born in 1856 at Beauvale, his mother Millicent Clarke was born in 1858 at Moorgreen, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Ernest b1881, George b1883, Arthur b1885 Alice b1887, Percy b1892 and Benjamin Robert b1889 all were born at Beauvale. In the 1911 census the family are living at Newthrope, Nottinghamshire and are shown as Zachariah 55 yrs a coal miner at the coal face, he is living with his wife Millicent 53 yrs and their children, George 28 yrs, a coal miner at the coal face, Alice 24 yrs a servant, Percy 19 yrs a coal miner, Benjamin Robert 11 yrs a scholar
Private Benjamin Robert Taylor was conscripted in September 1917 into the Leicestershire Regiment transferring to the Lincolns the following April in France. He died of wounds on 14th May 1918 and is buried at Bagneaux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt, France.
His brother Private George Taylor enlisted on 14th September 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 32 yrs and 100 days, his address as South Street, Giltbrook and his occupation was that of a coal miner. He was posted tot he Lincolnshire Regiment. He went to France on 31st January 1916, where he served until 5th July 1916 when he was returned to England on 6th July 1916, he died on 26th March 1918 and is buried at St Mary's churchyard at Greasley
