Family History

Charles Neville was born in 1892 at Eastwood and was the son of James a dairyman and Sarah Ellen Neville née Thornton of Abbeville Cottage Lynncroft Eastwood Nottinghamshire. His father James was born in 1862 at Northampton, his mother Sarah Ellen Thornton was born in 1857 at Greetham, Rutland, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had the following children, William b1885, George Henry b1887, Jim b1889, Charles b1892, Job Arthur b1897 all were born at Greasley/Eastwood. In the 1911 census the family are living at Lynn Croft, Eastwood and are shown as James 49 yrs a dairyman, he is living with his wife Sarah Ellen 54 yrs and their children, Jim 22 yrs a coal miner, Charles 19 yrs a school teacher and Arthur 14 yrs assisting in his fathers business. also living with them is Hannah Neville 42 yrs a home helper and is shown as sister.

Military History

Obtained OTC A and B Certificates whilst at university. He was placed in the Special Reserve of Officers and sent to France in December 1914. He died on 13th July 1916 and is buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery, France.
