Family History

Archibald Luke Knox was born in 1894 at Enfield, Middlesex and was the son of George Robert a plumber and Elizabeth Jane Knox née Whitaker of 8 baker Street, Albert Place, Peterborough. His father George was born in 1864 at Stantonbury, Buckingham, his mother Elizabeth Jane Whitaker was born in in 1860 at Ware, Hertfordshire, they were married in 1894 at Sydney Australia, their first child Kathleen was born in 1892 at Sydney, Australia the family seem to have returned to England following their marriage in Sydney as their son Archibald Luke was born in 1894 at Enfield, Middlesex, they went on to have the following children, Dora Annie b1898 at Enfield, Robert b1900 Peterborough, Winifred b1903 Peterborough and William Harold b1907 Peterborough. In the 1911 census the family are living at 2 Baker Street, Albert Place, Peterborough and are shown as George 49 yrs a plumber, he is living with his wife Elizabeth Jane 50 yrs and their children, Kate 19 yrs, Dora 13 yrs, Robert 11 yrs, Winnie 8 yrs and Harold 5 yrs, no occupations are listed for any of the children. In the same 1911 census we find that Archibald has left the family home, he is living at High Holborn, Northampton with a widow Elizabeth Bream a farmers widow and her family, Archibald is 16 yrs of age and a servant farm worker.

Military History

Private Archibald Luke Knox enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Peterborough. He served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was killed in action on 3rd March 1916. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
