Samuel Berry

Samuel Berry was born in 1894 at Greasley and was the son of Joseph a coal miner hewer and Emma (Emily) Berry née Cutts of 8 The Breach, Eastwood. His father Joseph was born in 1868 at Newthorpe, his mother Emma Cutts was born in 1871 at Newthorpe, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. They went on to have the following children all of whom were born at Greasley, Elizabeth b1891, Joseph b1893, Samuel b1894, Jane b1896, Edith b1897, George b1897, Harold b1900, Walter b1903, Emily b1904, Elsie b1906 and Jim b1910. In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 th Breach, Eastwood and are shown as Joseph 43 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Emily 40 yrs and their children, Joseph 18 yrs a coal miner hewer, Samuel 17 yrs a coal miner hewer, Edith 14 yrs a scholar, George 14 yrs a scholar, Harold 11 yrs a scholar, Walter 8 yrs a scholar, Emily 7 yrs, Elsie 5 yrs and Jim 1 year old.
