Family History

Arthur Henry Burton was born in 1898 at Bramcote, he was baptised on 8th April 1900 at St Michaels Church, Bramcote, he was the son of Peter Henry an estate joiner and his second wife Mary Jane Burton née Ebling of The Cottage, Man Street, Bramcote. Peter Henry was born in 1850 at Chilwell he married his first wife Louisa Moore (1850-1887) in 1874 at Mansfield. He went on to marry his second wife Mary Jane Ebling born in 1866 at Heydour, Lincolnshire on 19th April 1894 at Peterborough, they went on to have 7 children.

Military History

Private Arthur Henry Burton enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Bramcoe, he served with 2nd battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 24th March 1918 near Arras his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
