George was the son of William and Sarah Sutton of Nottingham. He married Mary Alice Price in 1906 at Nottingham and they lived at 95, Marlborough Road, Beeston, Nottingham in 1911. Mary later moved to 49, Osborne Road, Radford, Nottingham.
George Ernest Sutton enlisted at Ilkeston and is buried in Varennes Military Cemetery, Grave Reference: IV A 57
His brother-in-law Harold E. Price, 61st Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Force, was killed in action on 2nd November 1918. Nottingham Evening Post In Memoriam 8th September 1919: “SUTTON. – In loving memory of Pte. G. E. Sutton, who died of wounds on September 8th, 1918. Though death divide, fond memory clings. – From loving mother, step-father, Bill, and Gert, also brother Albert (in France). “SUTTON. – In loving memory of our dear chum, George. Happy memories. – Gertie and Will Blundy (Birmingham).” In memoriam published 3rd November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “PRICE. – In loving memory of Harold E. Price, American Forces, killed in action November 2nd, 1918. – Fond memories from mother, brother, Albert, and brother Jack (in America). “PRICE. – In loving memory of my dear brother, Harold E. Price, American Forces, killed in action November 2nd, 1918. Also my dear husband George E. Sutton, Lancashire Fusiliers, died of wounds September 8th, 1918.
