Family History

Vincent Joseph Solloway was born in 1894 the son of John a gardener and Bridget Solloway (née Mellody. Joseph was born in 1844 in Staffordshire, Bridget Ellen Mellody in Dudley. Married in 1868, they had fourteen children, ten surviving infancy. In 1911, they lived at 3, Lower Regent Street, Beeston with their children Gustav (19) a boot repairer, Vincent (17) a cabinet maker and Theresa (15) an enameller. John and Bridget later lived at 10, Middle Street, Beeston.

Military History

Vincent Joseph Solloway originally enlisted on 2nd November 1915 at Nottingham and was posted to the Lincolnshire Regiment and joined them at Lincoln on 9th November 1915. However on 25th March 1916 having been found to suffer from epilepsy he was discharged from the Army on 25h March 1916 as 'being unlikely to become an efficient soldier due to medical reasons (epilepsy)'. He later joined the Royal Air Force. He died at Aylesbury Military Hospital on 30th October 1918 and is buried in Beeston Cemetery, Nottingham.
