Claude Archibald Porter was born on 11th October 1890 at Radford, he was the son of William Porter a railway porter and Annie Porter née Leverton of 62 Broadgate, Beeston. His father William was born in 1848 at Ashby De La Zouch , Leicestershire, his mother Annie Leverton was born in 1851 at Teversall , they were married on 18th December 1870 at Teversall, they went on to have 8 children, In the 1901 census the family are living at Railway Station House, Old Radford Nottingham. In the 1911 census Claude is a railway clerk boarding in Kingswood Somerset.

Military History

Corporal Claude Archibald Porter enlisted on 9th February 1912, at Nottingham, giving his occupation as that of a railway clerk, he served with the 2nd battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killed in action between 14th and 16th September 1914 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, France.is buried at
