Cecil Samuel Jackson was born in 1890 the son of Thomas a police sergeant and Jane Anderson Jackson (née Shore). His father was born in 1860 in Blidworth, his mother in 1863 at Sutton in Ashfield. Married in 1862, they had four children - Alicia Shore b.1884 Sutton in Ashfield, Thomas b.1887 Sutton in Ashfield, Evelyn Arthur b.1897 Cropwell Butler (killed in action 28/3/1918) and Douglas Jackson b.1906. In 1911 they lived in Ruddington Nottinghamshire and later at 45, Denison Street and then 'Homeland' 91, Imperial Road, (both Beeston, Nottingham).
Cecil Samuel Jackson enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield and landed in France on 2nd November 1915. Thiepval Memorial Pier and Face 7D & 8D
His brother Lance Corporal Evelyn Arthur Jackson died of wounds on 28th March 1918 at No 6 Stationary Hospital, France and is buried in St. Hilaire Cemetery, Frevent. In memoriam Nottingham Evening Post 16th September 1918: 'JACKSON. – In loving memory of our dear sons & brothers, Pte. Cecil Samuel Jackson,Coldstream Guards, fell in action September 15th, 1916; also Lance-Cpl. Evelyn Arthur Jackson, Coldstream Guards, died of wounds March 28th, 1918, late of Denison-street, Beeston. They sleep beside their comrades, in distant graves unknown, but their names are written in words of love, in the hears they have left at home. – Sorrowing mother and father, sister, and brothers.' 'JACKSON. – In loving memory of my dear brothers, Pte. Cecil Samuel Jackson, Coldstream Guards, fell in action September 15th, 1916; also Lance-Cpl.
