Clarence Hazzeldine was born in 1893 the son of William a coal miner and Sarah Ann Hazzledine (née Spray). William was born in 1857 in Bramcote , Sarah Ann Spray in 1856 at Beeston. Married in 1874, they had twelve children eleven surviving infancy including George b.1876, Frank b.1878, William b.1880, Albert b.1882, Emily b.1883, Lottie b.1888, Joseph b.1889, Clarence b.1894 and Arty b.1895 all were born in Beeston. In 1911, they lived at 22, Denison Street, Beeston. William was a lace hand, Joseph a fitter and Arty an errand lad.
He enlisted in Nottingham joining the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry on the 4th September 1914 and was sent to France as part of a draft on 16th February 1915. He took part in the operations around La Bassée and was wounded by a sniper during the Battle of Hill 60 and was taken to Boulogne Hospital where he died of his wounds. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, Grave Reference: VIII.B.26
