William Henry Haddon was born in 1897 the son of William an iron foundry labourer and Elizabeth Haddon (née Foulk). William was born in 1874 at Basford, Elizabeth in 1873 at Derby. Married in 1896 at Nottingham, they had seven children six surviving infancy - William Henry b.1897, Ida b.1898, Percy b.1899, Lizzie b.1902, George b.1904 and Nellie Haddon b.1908. In 1911, they lived at 12, Humber Road South, Beeston.
William Henry Haddon enlisted in Nottingham and was killed in action on Easter Sunday, 8th April 1917. Faubourg d'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, Grave Reference: VII G 36
His brother, Private Percy Haddon, who served with the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, was killed in action in France 20th October 1918. Nottingham Evening Post 8th April 1918: “HADDON. – In loving memory of Pte. William Henry Haddon, R.A.M.C., killed in action April 8th, 1917, aged 20. Sleep on, dear son in a hero's grave, a grave we may never see, but as long as life lasts and memory clings, we shall always remember thee. – Sorrowing mother, father, sisters, and brothers and brother Percy (in France). “HADDON. – In loving memory of my dear brother Pte. William Henry Haddon, R.A.M.C., killed in action April 8th, 1917.
