Arthur Percy Frettingham

Arthur was the second son of William Henry and Ellen Miller Frettingham. William Henry married Ellen Miller Hogg in 1877 (marriage registered J/A/S Basford) and they had four children: Edith Miller (b. 1878), William Henry (b. 1880), Arthur Percy (b. 1881) and Florence Ellen (b. 1884). All the children were born in Beeston. In 1881 William (30), a nurseryman and seedman, and Ellen (27) were living on Denison Street, Beeston, with their first two children, Edith (2) and William (8 months). By 1891 William and Ellen were living at 22 Moorgate, Beeston, which was to remain their family home until their deaths. They now had four children; Edith (12), William (10), Arthur (9) and Florence (6). In 1901 all four children were still at home; Edith (22) and Ellen (16) had no occupation but both William and Arthur were working in their father's business. Edith married William Frederick Stanley in 1902 and William married Rebecca Moodie in 1904 and by 1911 was living at 41 Enfield Street, Beeston, with his wife and two daughters, Jeanie (4) and Ellen (1). In 1911 Arthur and Florence were still living with their parents on Moor Gate; their mother's sister, Mary Hogg (49) was also in the household. Arthur's mother died on 3 December 1913 and his father two years later on 1 March 1915 at the age of 66. His brother, William, attested on 7 June 1916 when he was nearly 34 years old. He served initially in a training battalion (484476) but transferred to the Labour Corps (580 Agricultural Company), and was discharged from the army in April 1919. His sister Edith died on 15 March 1956 at the age of 77; she was then living in Edwinstowe. Nottinghamshire. Her husband, a retired schoolmaster, survived her. His youngest sister, Florence, has not yet been traced after the 1911 Census.
