Charles Thomas Dixon was born in 1894 the second of five children, and eldest son, of Charles Thomas and Harriett Ann (née Green) Dixon. He was the brother of Rose Evelyn, Nellie Frances and Herbert Henry Dixon. Charles Thomas senior worked as a domestic coachman or chauffeur, first in Lincolnshire before taking a position in Bramcote, in about 1897. By 1911, he was working in Beeston, living with his family at 62 Station Road. By this time Charles Thomas junior had found work apparently joining his older sister, Annie Gertrude, who was working as a confectionery shop assistant.
Charles attested on 19th November 1915 at Nottingham into the territorial battalion of the Sherwood Foresters. He was placed into the reserves the following day. He was mobilised at Derby on 2nd February 1916. He went to Ireland in 1916 during the Irish Rebellion. On 26th April 1916, he died of wounds received attacking 25 Northumberland Road. He was buried at Grangegorman Military Cemetery, Dublin. Ernest was one of 31 men of the Sherwood Foresters who died as a result of the Irish Rebellion 1916.
In memoriam published 27th April 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “DIXON. — In loving memory Private C. T. Dixon, Beeston, killed in Dublin April 27th, [sic] 1916.
