Family History

Joseph Stanley was born in 1895 the son of Thomas William a railway labourer and Jane Castledine née Chadwick. Thomas William was born in 1859 in Beeston, Jane Chadwick was born in 1866 also at Beeston. Married in 1885, they had fifteen children, seven surviving infancy. In 1911, they lived at 10, Stoney Street, Beeston. Percy (23) was a lace threader and Mary (20) a compressor in a leather works. Hilda (10) and Harold (8) were at school.

Military History

Joseph Stanley Castledine enlised at Nottingham, initially serving (23776) in the King's Own Yorkshire Light infantry, later transferring to the Lancashire Fusiliers. He landed in France on 3rd December 1915. He died of wounds on 19th November 1918 and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France grave reference L.E.9
