John Claude Holland was born in 1886 the son of John James a farmer and Ada Holland née Pridmore of Hill Farm Toton Nottinghamshire. John James was born in 1863 at Radford, Ada Pridmore was born in 1865 at Radford, married in 1884 at Nottingham and had children, John Claude b1886, Ada Grace b1889, Edith Sylvia b1894 and Daisy b1896. He married Ellen Tomkies in 1905 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district, they lived at 40 William Street Long Eaton Derbyshire.
Private John Claude Holland, South African Medical Corps, was killed in action 14th April 1918. He is buried in La Clytte Military Cemetery.
Death notice published 2nd May 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HOLLAND. – Killed while faithfully doing his duty, April 14th, 1918, Pte. J. Claude Holland, South African Medical Corps, the only son of Mr. J. J. Holland, Hill Farm, Toton, Nottingham.” In memoriam published 14th April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HOLLAND. – In loving memory of John Claude Holland, South African M.C., only son of Mr. and Mrs. John James Holland, Toton, killed in action April 14th, 1918.
