Charles Walter Green was born in 1895 at The Riddings, Derbyshire, he was the son of Sam a farm labourer and Eliza Ann Dickenson of Top Lodge, Strelly, Nottingham. His father Sam was born in 1868 at Mansfield his mother Eliza Ann Dickenson was born in 1874 at Alfreton, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Belper registration district, they went on to have the following children, Fred b193 Riddings, Charles Walter b1895 Riddings, George Edward b1897 Riddings, Alice b1899 Eltham, Kent, Tom Draycott b1901 Eltham, Kent, Percy Leonard b1904 Mansfield Woodhouse, Ivy Harriett b1907 Beeston and Sam b1910 Strelly. In the 1911 census the family are living at Top Lodge Strelly, Nottingham and are shown as Sam 45 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Eliza Ann 40 yrs and their children Fred 18 yrs a coal miner pony driver, Charles W 16 yrs a stock boy under ground, George E 14 yrs a coal miner pony driver, Alice 12 yrs a scholar, Tom D 10 yrs Percy 7 yrs, Ivy 5 yrs and Sam 1 year of age.

Military History

Private Chalres Walter Green, enlisted at Warsop and served with the 2/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 7th April 1917 and is buried at Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy
