Walter Cammack was born in 1884 at Horncastle, he was baptised on 3rd May 1884 at Horncastle and was the son of Alfred and Eva Cammack Walter married Ellen Harper, on 22nd November 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they had the following children Walter, born 1909; Dorothy, born 1910, Alfred, born 1913 and Frances, born 1917. The family lived at 14 Sherwood Street, Warsop, Mansfield. Ellen later remarried in 1919 to Thomas Bartlett.
Private Walter Cammack attested on 29th November 1915 at Mansfield, he gave his age as 31 yrs and 270 days, his address as 13 Mansfield Road, Warsop, he stated he was married his next of kin was his wife Ellen of the same address, he stated he was a colliery clerk, he was posted to the reserves. On 12th March 1917 he was mobilised for war, posted to the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, He embarked from Folkstone on 14th March 1917 disembarking the same day at Boulogne. He was killed in action, whilst in the line near St Emile, France, 1st April 1918 and is buried at Aix-Noulette Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 2, Row E, Grave 13.
