Percy Victor Yaxley was born in 1897 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire and was the son of James Benjamin a railway clerk and Lucy Elizabeth Yaxley née Kethro of 4 Thoroton Road, West Bridgford. His father James Benjamin was born in 1869 in Elstree, Hertfordshire and his mother Lucy Elizabeth Kehtro was born in 1868 in St Johns, New Brunswick, Canada. They were married in 1887 in Bath, Somerset and had 5 children :- Alice Grace b1888 Twerton, Somerset, Ethel Beatrice b1891 Bath, Gertrude Agnes b1893 Bradford and William James Yaxley b1895 Bradford. In the 1911 census the family lived at 4 Thorston Road West Bridgford, and are shown as James 42 yrs a railway clerk, he is living with his wife Lucy 43 yrs and their children Ethel Beatrice 20 yrs a shop assistant, Gertrude Agnes 18 yrs a chemist clerk, William James 16 yrs a railway clerk and Percy Victor 13 yrs a scholar.
Gunner Percy Victor Yaxley, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the Royal Field Artillery. He died of maleria on 23rd September 1917. He is buried in Salonika (Lembet Road) Military Cemetery(grave ref. 1206).
'Roll of Honour' published on 23rd September 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “YAXLEY. – In loving memory of Gnr. Percy Victor Yaxley, R.F.A., died in Salonika, 1917, aged 19, the dearly beloved younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Yaxley, 4 Thoroton-road, West Bridgford. Only those who have lost can understand.” 'Roll of Honour' published 2 October 1917, Nottingham Evening Post :- “YAXLEY. – Died of malaria, September 23rd, 1917, Gunner P. V. Yaxley, dearly-beloved youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Yaxley, 4, Thoroton-road, West Bridgford, aged 19. Deeply mourned by father, mother, sisters, and brother [William James] (in France).” 'In memoriam' notice published 23rd September 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “YAXLEY. – In loving memory of Gnr. Percy Victor Yaxley, R.F.A., died in Salonika, 1917, aged 19, the dearly beloved younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Yaxley, 4 Thoroton-road, West Bridgford.
