Frank Taylor was born in 1899 at Sheffield he was the son of George a coal miner hewer and Mary Taylor née Jackson of 112 Blake Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. George was born in 1874 at Sheffield, Mary Ann Jackson was born in 1873 also in Sheffield, they were married in 1895 at Sheffield, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at 56 Devonshire Street, Shirebrook, George 37 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 38 yrs and their sons Frank 14 yrs a colliery labourer and William 3yrs old.

Military History

Private Frank Taylor enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Mansfield Woodhouse on 17th June 1915, giving his age as 19 years and 172 days he was a coal miner. Posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action on 4th August 1916, he is buried at Gorre British And Indian Cemetery, France. Plot 2. Row E. Grave 25..
