Family History

Herbert Slater was born in 1894 he was the son of the late Sam and Elizabeth Annie Slater née Radford, his parents were married in 1884 at Mansfield in 1911 was living at 13 Andrew's Yard, Mansfield.

Military History

Private Herbert Slater enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 2/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He enlisted on 31st January 1916, he saw service in Ireland during the Irish rebellion. He landed in France on 27th February 1917 and was killed in action on 26th September 1917. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
