Bruce was baptised on 27th November 1898 at St Lawrence, Biddulph he was the only son of John a coal miner and his second wife Frances Sherratt née Bailey of Azalia Cottages, Mansfield Woodhouse. John was born in 1858 at Bradley Green, Staffordshire, Frances Bailey was born in 1876 at Biddulph, they were married in 1897 at Leek, John's first wife was Ellen Copeland, born 1860 Biddulph, she died in 1895 Staffordshire, they had 2 children, John b1889 and Ellen b1895. In 911 the family were living at 24 Harrington Street, Mansfield. John 53 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his second wife Frances 35 yrs and their son Bruce 12 yrs old.

Military History

Lance Corporal Bruce Sharrett enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He was taken a prisoner of war and died of wounds on 3rd June 1918 and is buried at Marfaux British Cemetery, France.
