Family History

Frederick Savage was born in 1897 at Bulwell he was the son of the late William Samuel Savage a general labourer and Harriett Savage née Baxter of Bulwel. William Samuel was born in 1875 at Bulwell, he died in 1916 aged 42 yrs, Harriett Baxter was born in 1876 in Stafford, they were married on 3rd June 1895 at St Mary's Church, Bulwell, they went on to have 3 further children. In 1911 Frederick was living with his aunt and uncle, Sarah Ellen and Thomas Rogers at 59 Thoresby Road, Mansfield Woodhouse.

Military History

Private Frederick Savage enlisted at Newark, whilst residing at Mansfield Woodhouse. He initially served with the service number 3727 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He later transferred and served with the 10th battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 20th November 1916 and is buried at Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
