George Edward Moore was born in 1897, he was baptised on 13th January 1897 at St Edmunds Church, Mansfield Woodhouse and was the son of Thomas a coal miner hewer and Sarah Moore née Charity of 9 Priory Square, Mansfield woodhouse. Thomas Moore was born in 1859 at Croxton, Leicestershire, Sarah Charity was born in 1868 at Ryhall, Rutland, they were married on 23rd March 1887 at the parish church at Wyville, Lincolnshire they went on to have 6 children. In 1911 the family were living at 15 Manvers Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Thomas 52 yrs a coal miner hewer is living with his wife Sarah 43 yrs and their six children including George Edward 14 yrs an errand lad.
Private George Edward Moore enlisted on 5th November 1914 at Mansfield however he was discharged on 22nd April 1915 due to pleurisy. He was recalled in 1917 and served with the 18th battalion Yorkshire Regiment. He died on 17th December 1918 at Clipstone Camp of tuberculosis of the lungs and pneumonia. He is buried at St Edmund's Churchyard Extension, Welbeck Road, Mansfield Woodhouse
