Family History

Thomas Lees was born in 1880 he was the son of William a chimney sweep and Annie Lees née Collyer of Repton, Derbys. William was born in 1853 at Stackerton, Leicestershire, Annie Collyer was born in 1853 at Repton, they were married on 19th September 1874 at Repton, they had 11 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at Dale Cottages, Repton, William 56 yrs a chimney sweep, he is living with his wife Annie 56 yrs and their son Lewis 15 yrs. Thomas married Rebecca Ann Pogmore on 4th August 1906, they lived at 18 Bancroft Lane, Mansfield, in the 1911 census they are living at Bancroft Lane, Mansfield Thomas is 31 yrs and is a bricklayers labourer, he is living with his wife Rebecca. His pension record card states that he has been separated from his wife for some years before his enlistment. he is living at 21 Portland Street, Mansfield, Woodhouse

Private Thomas Lees enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Mansfield Woodhouse, he served with the 1st battalion South Staffordshire, he died of wounds on 2nd February 1918 and is buried at Giavera British Cemetery, Arcade, Italy
