William Hett was born in 1872 at Mansfield Woodhouse, he was the son of the late George a coal dealer and Mary Hett née Ryley of 14 Park Road, Mansfield Woodhouse. George was born in 1826 at Mansfield Woodhouse, he died in 190 aged 75 yrs, Mary Ryley was born in 1830 in Nottinghamshire, they were married on 12th June 1867 at St Matthias, Richmond , they had 3 children 1 sadly died in infancy or early his childhood his surviving sibling was John b1868. In 1911 William is living with his widowed mother Mary 81 yrs a cow keeper, they are living at 14 Park Road, Mansfield Woodhouse, William is 39 yrs

Military History

Rifleman William Hett enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Mansfield he enlisted on 14th July 1915 giving his age as 37 yrs and 8 months he stated he was a farmer. Posted to the King's Royal Rifle Corps he landed in France on 2nd May 1916, he was killed in action on 7th October 1916 (gunshot wound to his back ) he is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
