Leonard Hardy was born in 1898 at Newton, he was the son of James a coal miner lamp lighter and Fanny Hardy née Bean of 3 George Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. James Hardy was born in 1862 at Stanton Hill, Fanny Bean was born in 1859 at Rainworth, they were married on 24th December 1882 at St Edmund's church, Mansfield Woodhouse, they went on to have 8 children. In 1911 the family are living at 3 George Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, James 49 yrs is a lamp lighter living with his wife Fanny 52 yrs and their children including Leonard 13 yrs a coal miner.

Military History

Pte. Leonard Hardy, initially served with service number 18423 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment before being transferred to the 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 25th September 1915 and his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
