Arthur Grummitt was born in 1888 he was the son of the late William a farmer and Julia Grummitt née Howitt William was born in 1859 at Weston, he died in 1905 aged 46 yrs Julia Howitt was born in 1861 at Fotheringham, Lincs, they were married in 1883 their marriage was registered in the Bourne registration district, they went on to have 7 children. Arthur married Edith Hall (born 9th June 1892) in 1912, their marriage was recorded in the Bourne registration district, they lived at 12 Blake Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, they had 3 children, Marian, born 20th August 1912 Bernard, born 25th July 913 and Phyliss Edith born 14th August 1916. Commencing 19th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week.

Military History

Private Arthur Grummitt enlisted at Bourne, Lincolnshire, he served with the 2nd battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 24th April 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
