Horace Green was born in 1890 baptised on 28th October 1890 at Pelsall parish church he was the son of the late James a blacksmith and Mary Ann Green née Jones of Pelsall, Staffordshire. James was born in 1854 at Pelsall he died in 1906 Mary Ann Jones was born in 1857 at Ogley Hay, she died in 1901 aged 44 yrs they were married on 31st December 1881 at Ogley Hay, Staffordshire and had 5 children. In 1911 Horace was boarding with the Wootton family at 132 Coke Street, Mansfield Woodhouse he is 20 yrs of age and a collier.

Military History

Private Horace Green enlisted at Mansfield, he initially served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment (19096). He first landed in the Balkans on 1st October 1915. He was later transferred to the South Staffordshire Regiment and was killed in action on 23rd April 1917 whilst serving on the Western Front, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
