Family History

Thomas Carrington was born in 1896 at Langwith he was the son of George a labourer on pit bank and Mary Ellen Carrington née Burrows of 8 Debdale Lane, Mansfield Woodhouse. George was born in 1858 at Cotgrave, Mary Ellen Burrows was born in 1858 at Aldershot, they were married on 28th January 1878 at Holy Trinity Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 12 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 24 Station Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, George is 53 yrs and a labourer on the pit bank, he is living with his wife Mary Ellen 53 yrs and two of their sons including Thomas 15 yrs a shop assistant.

Military History

Private Thomas Carrington enlisted in February 1916 at Mansfield. He died of wounds at 88 Field Ambulance 18th April 1917, he is buried at Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-Les-Mofflaines, France. Plot 3, Row D. Grave 12.

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser: 10/05/1917: Died of wounds on 18/04/1917. Son of Mr & Mrs G Carrington of 8 Debdale Lane Mansfield Woodhouse. His brothers were serving, CGS George Carrington, Signaller Harry Carrington and Gunner Sam Carrington.
