Albert Anthoney was born in 1893 at Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, he was the son son of Arthur Burton a coal miner and Mary Ann Anthoney née Pitchfork of 161, Blake Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Arthur Burton Anthoney was born in 1869 at Codnor, Mary Ann Pitchfork was born in 1874 at Castleford, Yorks , they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 9 children. In 1911 the family are living at 61 Blake Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Arthur is 41 yrs, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 37 yrs and 7 of their children including Albert 17 yrs single and a coal miner pony driver. Albert married Nora Ansell (born 12th December 1893) in 1913 at Mansfield, they lived at 77 Sherwood Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, commencing 23rd October 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week. His widow re married on 9th April 1917 to Joseph Emery a coal miner.
Private Albert Anthoney enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He went to France 29th April 1915 and was killed in action, 14th February 1916, during heavy German shellfire and the explosion of a German mine, prior to the German attack of the front line trenches, near the canal to the south-east of Ypres, Belgium. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. Panel 39 and 41
