He was the third son of Alfred Cook Turner and Elizabeth Turner, née Glover. Alan was one of nine children most of whom were born in Brighton.His father was a commercial traveller in the silk trade. The family lived in Abbotswood, King's Langley, Hertfordshire (CWGC). Alan had formerly lived at 29 Ditchling Road, Brighton.Alan married Ethel Reid in 1910 (O/N/D Stockport) and at the time of his death in 1918 they were living at 73 Ryebank Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester.
Army Service Corps.He died in the High Street Military Hospital, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester, and is buried in the Manchester Southern Cemetery.
