Family History

Courtney Scott Keeton was born in 1896 he was the son of Ernest Augustus a coal miner hewer and Frances Keeton née Simpson of 15 Bagshaw Street, Pleasley Hill. Ernesy Augustus was born in 1869 at Pleasley Hill, Frances (Fanny) Simpson was born in 1868 at Mansfield Woodhouse, they were married on 10th May 1891 at Pleasley they had 3 children. In 1911 the family are living at 15 Bagshaw Street, Pleasley, Ernest Augustus is 43 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Fanny 43 yrs and 2 of their children, Phyllis Eveline 18 yrs a laundry worker and Courtney Scott 15 yrs a coal miner roadman.

Military History

Corporal Cortney Scott Keeton enlisted on 9th June 1915 at Tidworth he served with the 20th Company, Royal Army Medical Corps he died on 11th March 1917 of appendicitis at Fovant Hospital, Salisbury he is buried at Mansfield Pleasley Hill Cemetery.

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser, 23/11/1916: photograph printed: 15/03/1917, Cpl Courtney Keeton of Bagshaw Street, Pleasley has died of illness the previous Sunday at Fovant Hospital, Nr Salisbury. Had been home on leave in February, but on return to his post in Fovant Hospital he became ill with appendicitis. His mother was able to be with him when he passed away. Funeral details printed in the 22/03/1917 edition.
